Poverty Playlist: “My Girls” by Animal Collective

So, “My Girls” is one of my favorite singles of the year. I know, me and everyone else who listened to music this year. But in addition to being funky and blinky and plinkily sonorous, it’s also a pretty good jam for the poverty playlist. Here we’ve got Avey Tare dismissing the trappings of wealth, if only he can scrounge up enough to provide for his wife and daughter.

With a little girl, and by my spouse
I only want a proper house

The question is whether could he actually afford the downpayment on that adobe slab (slat? slab?) these days…
